Effect of Conflict Management Strategies on Organizational Performance. A Survey of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State, Nigeria
Abstract
The most critical and vital function that sustains an organization and boost it performance level is conflict management. This is because conflict is an impediment and major deterrent to organizational performance. Effective conflict management in any organization is desirable because it leads to realization of the organizational objectives. However, available research reports have shown that several organizational leaders are inefficient in conflict management. This study “Effect of Conflict Management Strategies on Organizational Performance. A Survey of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria” investigated conflict management strategies and whether they have effect on organizational performance. This is because the general notion is that many organizational leaders lack the strategies required for effective conflict management. Appropriate conflict management strategies could enhance organizational performance. The study is a survey research design. Target population of the study was 648 participants. Sample of the study was 247 respondents. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s technique for sample sized determination. Instrument for data collection was the researchers’ structured questionnaire and interviews. Four research questions and two mill hypotheses guided the study. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Specifically, the research questions were answered using item by item percentage statistical analysis. The null hypothesis were tested at 0.05 level of significance using regression analysis and the associated ANOVA. Findings of the study revealed that the major cause of decline in organizational performance is lack of appropriate conflict management strategies. It was recommended that organizational leaders should employ appropriate conflict management strategies to enhance performance of employees in work place organizations.
