Assessment of the Contributions of Centre-Based Management Committees (CBMCs) in Promoting Adult and Non-Formal Education Programs in Sokoto State, Nigeria

Abstract

The paper focuses on the assessment of Center Based Management Committee in the promotion of Adult and Non-formal Education Programs in Sokoto state. Two research objectives guided the study. The research design used for this study was descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 678 out of which 234 respondents sampled for the study. The findings of the research reveals among others that, the respondents unanimously agreed that CBMCs contributed in the provision of teaching and learning materials to adult and non-formal education programs. They supported the development of the program through the provision of teaching and learning materials such as exercise books primers, pencils, erasers, chairs and mats. The paper recommended among others that National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non Formal Education should collaborate with the State Agency for Mass Education to ensure timely supervision, coaching and mentoring of CBMCs in all the learning centers in the state to ensure effective implementation of the activities. It concluded that Center Based Management Committees contributed in promoting adult and non-formal education programmes in Sokoto state, Nigeria.
