Beyond Shelter: The Impact of Institutional Foster Services on the Holistic Development of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children in Rivers State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of institutional foster services on the holistic development of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) in Rivers State. Key findings show that while institutional care is critical for survival, deficits in emotional security, caregiver attachment, and mental health remain. The study suggests strengthening caregiver capabilities, integrated nutrition and health programming, and policy-driven quality assurance mechanisms to ensure multidimensional development outcomes.
