Influence of Musical Instruments on Music Education in Junior Secondary School in Ondo West Local Government Area

Abstract

Music is a worldwide language that plays a dynamic role in human development, emotional expression, and cultural preservation. In the school setting, music education provides students with opportunities to develop creativity, discipline, and appreciation for the arts. This research examined the influence of using musical instruments on the teaching and learning of Junior Secondary School students in Ondo West Local Government Area Ondo State. Descriptive research design was employed. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 respondents cutting across four junior secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area. Responses from 100 students were analyzed with frequency counts, percentage and mean. Findings revealed that musical instruments significantly enhance students' interest, creativity, and comprehension of musical concepts. The study concludes that the availability and proper utilization of musical instruments improve both teaching effectiveness and students' learning outcomes in music. Recommendations were made for the provision of adequate instruments and training of qualified music teachers to promote practical music education in schools.
