Abstract

This paper examines the prospects and challenges facing Nigeria's education sector, framing education as the essential foundation for meaningful and sustainable national development. It identifies that the sector's potential is severely undermined by a confluence of systemic issues, including chronic underfunding, poor governance, decaying infrastructure, a critical shortage of qualified teachers, institutional corruption, and worsening insecurity. These challenges collectively degrade the quality, accessibility, and equity of education, thereby limiting its role as a tool for socio-economic and technological progress.
