Predicting Fear of Negative Evaluation: The Roles of Self-Concept and Body Image Dissatisfaction Among Undergraduates

Abstract

The study investigated self-concept and body dissatisfaction as predictors of fear of negative evaluation among undergraduates. One hundred and twenty (120) undergraduate students with an age range of 17-30 years, a mean age of 18.63 and SD of 2.601 were selected using two-stage (availability and purposive) sampling techniques as participants from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus and Institute of Management and Technology. Participants completed the Watson and Friend (1969) Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (FNE), the Robson (1989) Self-Concept Questionnaire, and the Sandoz & Wilson (2006) Body Image and Action Questionnaire (BIAQ). A correlational design was employed, and multiple regression analyses were conducted.
