Transformative Competencies in Learning in Tertiary Education: Catalysts for Economic Development in Nigeria

Abstract

As the nation strives to enhance its economic growth and global competitiveness, it is imperative that educational institutions equip students with transformative competencies to address the multifaceted challenges of the modern economy. By adopting measures to teach transformative competencies, Nigeria can develop a skilled and resilient workforce capable of propelling the nation towards sustainable economic development. Hence, this paper examines transformative competencies in learning in tertiary education as catalysts for economic development in Nigeria. It scopes at concept of competency, concept of transformative competencies, importance of transformative competencies in modern education, economic development, role of tertiary education in economic development, transformative competencies in tertiary education and learning transformative competencies in tertiary education. Based on that it was recommended among others that tertiary institutions should expand opportunities for experiential learning, such as internships, study abroad programs, and project-based learning.
