The Impact of School Environment and Teachers Background on Teaching and Learning Process in Basic Schools in Delta State
Abstract
The issue of education all over the world has remained an important discourse even more in the 21st century. As time and event change also the need to look into the system of education to fit into the changes as it is the basis for societal development and character development. Any society that invest in the education of its people stand tall in the society of community. Hence this study concerned itself with the impact of school environment and teachers background on teaching and leaving process in Basic School in Delta State, a case study of Ughelli North Local Government Area. The goal of this research is to address school environment and teachers ground in an attempt of creating more enabling environment for teaching and learning process and to provoke educational authority urgently to embrace the task of improving the educational system and structure. To carry out this research adequately, the work adopted historical approach and as well as the use of questionnaire in eliciting information from respondent. The research discovered that there is the need to improve on the school environment and quality of the teachers, that poor academic performance is on the increase as a result of poor environment and teachers’ background. The study recommended that government should invest heavily on the education sector. And educational authority should be up and doing in creating suitable environment for teaching and learning. The work concluded that good school environment and quality teachers enhance quality education for Basic students, and students in general.
