Abstract

This study assessed the family need assessment and child development in Emelogo community of Abua/Odual LGA, Akwa-Ibom State. The study adopted correlational design and cross-sectional design was utilized. The study used non-proportionate stratified random sampling techniques and multi-stage cluster sampling techniques. From the total population, sample size of 384 was determined using Cochran (1977) formula at degree of accuracy desired at 0.05. From the questionnaire distributed only 379 copies were completed and retrieved. The instruments were validated and approach to authenticate the reliability, the outcome was Spearman-Brown equal length is 0.974 (97.40%) and Guttman Split-Half Coefficient (0.961). Two research questions and two hypotheses were raised which was tested with logistic regression analysis and KMO/Barllet’s test for the sampling adequacy for data appropriateness and sphericity respectively via SPSS 25 version. From the findings, males agreed that both sexes should determine what type of family need assessment to be adopted. In conclusion, the apriori expectations is could be deduced that there is positive outcome which revealed there is necessity of male participation. This is in accord with the findings from the regression model used to analyze the hypotheses. Thus, the null hypotheses were rejected, while the alternate hypotheses were accepted.
