Effects of Jig-Saw IV Strategy on Senior Secondary Two Students’ Achievement in Biology in Jos North, Plateau State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study was carried out to explore the effects of jig-saw iv strategy on senior secondary two students’ achievement in Biology in Jos North, Plateau State, Nigeria. The study employed the quasi-experimental design, specifically, the non-randomized control group, pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study comprised of all SSII students offering Biology from the 22 public schools, consisting of 1916 students in Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State. The sample size of 100 SSII students offering Biology from two government senior secondary schools were used for the study. Nervous system achievement test for students (NSAT) was validated by three experts and used for the study with reliability coefficient of 0.78. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance using mean, standard deviation and ANCOVA. The result of the findings revealed that Jig-Saw IV strategy increased SSII students’ achievement on the concept Nervous system than those taught using Lecture method but there was no significant difference between male and female SSII students. The study recommended that Biology teachers should employ the use of Jig-Saw IV strategy in teaching nervous system.
