Human Resource Management Practices and Employee Effectiveness Among Drilling Fluid Firms in Rivers State

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between human resource management practices and employee effectiveness in drilling fluid firms in Rivers State. The study adopted cross sectional and ex-post facto design. Data were generated by quantitative and qualitative method. The study used purposive sampling techniques. A total population of 205, sample size of 136 was determined using Yaro Yamane's formula at 0.05 level of significance. Also, 136 copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents, while 117 copies were completed and retrieved. The instruments were validated with reliability above 0.7 co-efficient, using Cronbach Alpha technique. The reliability coefficient analysis was recruitment $(\alpha=.882)$, training of staff $(\alpha=.878)$, compensation and benefits $(\alpha=.866)$, goal accomplishment $(\alpha=.884)$, creativity $(\alpha=.870)$, team performance $(\alpha=.882)$ and culture $(\alpha=.887)$. 10 research questions and 10 hypotheses were raised which were tested with Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Ordinary Least Square Method (OLSM) and Partial Correlation for the moderating variable via SPSS 25 version. The study find out the concept of human resource management practices creates positive impact on employee effectiveness. In conclusion, recruitment, training, compensation have significant influence on the employee effectiveness of the drilling fluid firm. Based on the findings and conclusion, this study contributes to the knowledge that compensation and benefits are distinctive and consistent tone for employee effectiveness and commitment to corporate culture principles and practice leads to firm effectiveness. It was recommended that to be able to have leading edge the drilling fluid firm management should integrate recruitments in a better manner towards team performance.
