Effective Team Dynamics and Organizational Performance in Selected Manufacturing Firms in Delta State

UWONOGHO, I, OLANNYE, A P

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between effective team dynamics and organizational performance in selected manufacturing firms in Delta State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to examine the effects of conflict resolution, team cohesion, and cross-functional integration on organizational performance. A cross-sectional survey research design was employed. The population comprised 3,195 employees from eight manufacturing firms, with a sample size of 357 determined using the Taro Yamane formula. Data were collected via structured questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient. The findings revealed a significant positive effect between conflict resolution and organizational performance (r = 0.845, p < 0.05), team cohesion and organizational performance (r = 0.825, p < 0.05), and cross-functional integration and organizational performance (r = 0.930, p < 0.05). The study concludes that effective team dynamics are a critical determinant of organizational performance in the manufacturing sector. It recommends that manufacturing firms institutionalize robust conflict management mechanisms, actively foster team cohesion through participative management, and strategically enhance cross-functional integration by cultivating a supportive culture and improving inter-departmental communication and coordination.
