Abstract

This study investigated the impact of economic instability on the marital stability of Christian homes in the North-Central Geo-Political Zone of Nigeria. The primary aim was to assess how fluctuations in the economic environment affect the relationships and cohesion of Christian families within the region. From an estimated Christian population of 12,020,405, a sample of 975 respondents was selected through random sampling. A descriptive survey design was employed, and data were obtained using a structured questionnaire. The findings indicated that while economic instability can foster unity, cooperation, and modest living among some couples, it simultaneously poses significant challenges. For many households, persistent financial pressures lead to tension, disagreements, and emotional strain, which, if not effectively managed, have the potential to undermine marital stability. Based on the outcomes, the study recommends that Christian families should engage in deliberate financial management practices, such as budgeting, saving, and maintaining open dialogue about financial issues. In addition, it is advised that churches strengthen marriage support programmes that promote emotional resilience, constructive communication, and joint problem-solving, particularly in addressing economic stress within the home.
