Managements’ Provision of Digital Technology as a Correlate of Lecturers’ Proficiency in Tertiary Institutions in Bauchi State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study investigated Managements’ Provision of Digital Technology as a correlate of Lecturers’ Proficiency in Tertiary Institutions in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Four research objectives, four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the conduct of the study. Related and relevant literatures were reviewed in building the study which laid adequate foundation for the study. The correlational research design was adopted for this study. The population of the study consisted of 4,330 lecturers across 16 government owned tertiary institutions in the State. The sample for the study consisted of 693 lecturers. Multistage stratified sampling technique was employed in the study. The instruments for data collection were a self-developed questionnaire titled: Managements’ Provision of Digital Technology Questionnaire (MPDTQ) and Lecturers’ Proficiency in Digital Technology Questionnaire (LPDTQ). The instrument was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instruments was determined using Cronbach Alpha Method. Data was collected by administering the instrument with the help of three briefed research assistants. Data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Percentages, mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions asked, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that management have provided smartboards and tablets to a low extent while laptops and projectors have been provided by management in a high extent for lecturers’ proficiency in tertiary institutions in Bauchi State. The study concluded that more tablets and smartboards should be provided by management to enhance lecturers’ proficiency in teaching and learning in tertiary institutions in Bauchi State.
