Green Entrepreneurship and Sustainability of Small and Medium Manufacturing Enterprises in South-East Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the effect of green entrepreneurship and sustainability of small and medium manufacturing enterprises in South-East Nigeria. The study aims to investigate the effect of Green entrepreneurial initiatives, green entrepreneurial innovation and green entrepreneurial marketing on environmental sustainability, product sustainability, marketing sustainability. Relevant literature was reviewed. The study adopted Survey research design strategy. The survey instrument used in this study was structured questionnaire with 5 Likert scale response. The population of the study comprises 8039 registered owners of small and medium manufacturing enterprises South- East, Nigeria. The statistical formula by Borg and Gall was employed to determine the sample size of 1554. The instruments were subjected to face and content validity. The reliability of the questionnaire was established through the test-retest and Cronbachi Alpha. Simple percentage analysis was used in the analyzing research question. Hypotheses for the study were tested using Simple Regression Analysis (SRA). The study revealed that green entrepreneurial initiatives had a significant positive effect on environmental sustainability, green entrepreneurial marketing had a significant positive effect on marketing sustainability and green entrepreneurial innovation had a significant positive effect on product sustainability of small and medium manufacturing enterprises in South-East. The study concluded that green entrepreneurship significantly positive effect on sustainability of small and medium manufacturing enterprises in South-East Nigeria. The study recommended that small and medium enterprises management should engender more concerns for green entrepreneurial marketing by considering consumers concerns about promoting preservation and conservation of natural resources in advertising and packaging; as this will enhance sustaining the enterprise.
