Inclusive, Equitable and Multicultural Classroom: Effective Strategies

Davide Di Palma, Giovanna Scala, Giovanni Tafuri

Abstract

The inclusion of foreign students within the school environment represents one of the main challenges in promoting a truly equitable and inclusive educational system. Addressing this issue requires not only sensitivity to cultural diversity, but also the adoption of innovative and effective pedagogical approaches. This experimental study investigates the impact of specific teaching strategies—such as cooperative learning within the classroom and culturally responsive pedagogy—on a group of primary school students. Using a mixed qualitative- quantitative methodology, the research explores how these strategies influence both the integration process and students’ emotional well-being. The findings highlight clear and meaningful improvements, particularly in students' sense of inclusion and levels of self-esteem, suggesting that targeted pedagogical interventions can significantly contribute to a more supportive and inclusive school climate.
