Entrepreneurship Education and Career Aspiration of Business Education Students in Rivers State Universities

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between entrepreneurship education and career aspiration of Business Education students in Rivers State universities. The study adopted correlational design. Five research questions were posed and five corresponding null hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study consisted of one thousand, one hundred and fifty- nine (1,159) Business Education level 100 and 200 students in 2023/2024 academic year in two universities in Rivers State, Krejcie and Morgan (1970) method for determining sample size was adopted for this study, resulting in the use of 285 which also formed the sample. Two sets of self- constructed questionnaire titled Entrepreneurship Education (QEE) and Business Education Students Career Aspiration (QBESCA) were used in eliciting responses from respondents for this study. The research instruments were validated by two Business Educators and an expert in Measurement and Evaluation, all the inputs and corrections from the experts were used to modify the research instruments. Reliability level for the instruments was established using a test-retest method. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyse the two sets of data and the reliability levels were established at a coefficient (r) of 0.88 for entrepreneurship education Questionnaire and 0.70 for Business Education Students Career Aspiration Questionnaire. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for answering the research questions while Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Method was used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05% level of significance. The findings of the study were: There is a positive relationship between entrepreneurial activities and access to entrepreneurial mentorship and Business Education students career aspiration in Rivers State universities.
