Abstract

The study ascertained the concept of E-counseling and utilization for effective counseling in secondary schools in Enugu State. It specifically sought to examine the extent to which E- counseling can be utilized for effective counseling in secondary school in Enugu State with respect to gender. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 13060 students made up of 1437 students of which 1317 retrieved data was used for the study. A self- structured questionnaire developed by the researcher was used to collect data for the study. The instrument was validated by (3) research experts. One in measurement and evaluation and two others in Guidance and Counseling Department all in Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Agbani. Data collected for the study was used to analyze the research question using mean, grand mean and standard deviation, the hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics. The study revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean response scores of the extent to which E-counseling can be utilized for effective counseling in secondary school in Enugu State with respect to gender. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends among others that cultural and ethical implications of online counseling need to be considered and government with the help of education stakeholders should make internet facilities available in secondary schools in order for counselors and students to have an easy access for the improvement of their studies.
