Promoting Student Learning AD Inclusion Through Physical Literacy

Davide Di Palma, Gianluca Gravino, Fabiola Palmiero, Giovanni Tafuri

Abstract

Physical literacy is gaining increasing importance in the international discourse on physical education, thanks to its educational value and its beneficial impact on students’ overall well- being and personal growth—especially for those with special educational needs (SEN). This study investigates the ongoing interdisciplinary discussion, highlighting the most effective pedagogical approaches for fostering physical literacy. It reviews successful intervention strategies and recognized best practices, with the objective of designing an Italian model that is integrated, inclusive, accessible, and adaptable to various local contexts. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analysis through the use of validated and standardized tools such as the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2), the Physical Literacy Assessment for Youth (PLAY), and the Motivational Questionnaire of Interest in Physical Activity. Findings will demonstrate that this model supports psychophysical development, promotes social inclusion, and strengthens individual competencies in students.
