Firm Size and Corporate Entrepreneurial Success: Evidence from Listed Food and Beverages Firms in Nigeria

Okechukwu Ferdinand Cyril-Nwuche, PhD

Abstract

This study examined the effect of firm size on corporate entrepreneurial success of listed food and beverages firms in Nigeria between 2012 and 2024. The specific objective was to ascertain the effect of firm size on the earnings per share of these firms. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design, using a population of sixteen listed food and beverages firms, out of which twelve were purposively selected as the sample. Secondary data were obtained from the audited annual reports of the sampled firms for the study period. The hypothesis was tested using Robust Least Squares regression with the aid of EViews 11 software. The finding revealed that firm size had a significant positive effect on earnings per share (? = 0.414274; p = 0.0001), leading to the conclusion that larger firms in the sector enjoy greater corporate entrepreneurial success compared to smaller firms. The study recommends that managers of listed food and beverage firms in Nigeria are encouraged to strategically pursue sustainable growth in firm size, as expansion enhances earnings per share and strengthens corporate entrepreneurial success.
