Effect of Collaborative Instructional Delivery Strategies on Business Studies Students Academic Achievement in Port Harcourt Metropolis
Abstract
The study examines the effect of collaborative instructional delivery strategies on business studies students’ academic achievement in Port Harcourt metropolis. Two research questions were answered to guide the study while two corresponding null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted quasi-experimental design. The population of the study was 6773 students from all the 35 public Junior Secondary Schools in Port Harcourt Metropolis. Purposive sampling technique was used to select two (2) schools from the target population, consisting of 58 and 54 students respectively, which include; schools that have at least five Business Studies teachers and schools having computer studio that carries 50 students each class. The instrument for data collection for the study were Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT). The Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT) was a 100 item of multiple-choice questions. The researcher submitted the drafted instrument of Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT) to experts in the Department of Business Education. Since the objective test questions were selected from the Junior School Certificate Examination which is a standardize test for the class. The descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions 1 and 2 respectively while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used for testing hypotheses 1 and 2 at .05 level of significance. The study found that students that were exposed to collaborative teaching method perform better than those that were taught with demonstration teaching method in office practice and heart of business. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that the use of collaborative instructional delivery as a method in teaching of Business Studies should be encouraged and imbibed by teachers in Port Harcourt metropolis .
