Alawari Owunabo, Nwachukwu Precious Ikechukwu

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between workplace inclusion and employee innovativeness in oil services firms in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Drawing from diversity and inclusion theories, the study focuses on ethnicity diversity and education diversity as predictors of employee productivity and effectiveness. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted, with data collected from 170 employees across 10 oil services firms. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used for data analysis. Findings reveal that workplace inclusion, through ethnicity and education diversity, significantly influences employee innovativeness by enhancing productivity and effectiveness. Furthermore, the findings reveal significant relationships between workplace inclusion dimensions and employee innovativeness outcomes. The study contributes to organizational behavior literature by addressing the gap in understanding how diversity management influences innovation in Nigeria's oil and gas sector, particularly in the Niger Delta region. The study concludes that workplace inclusion fosters employee creativity and adaptability, thereby sustaining organizational competitiveness in the oil and gas sector. Recommendations include stronger diversity policies, continuous staff development, and institutional mechanisms to support inclusive practices.
