John Lucky Onwuemene, and Raphael S. Etim PhD; Samuel Etuk PhD

Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of automated teller machines on assets of Deposit money banks in Nigeria from 2000 to 2024 using annual time series data sourced from Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, World Bank Development Indicators and National Bureau of Statistic Statistical Bulletin. Return on asset (ROA) was used as the dependent variable while automated teller machines were used as the independent variable. Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model was used to analyze data. The result revealed that automated teller machines recorded a significant positive relationship with ROA. The authors’ recommended that banks should improve efficiency of ATMs and provide them in financially excluded locations. This will help more unbanked to open accounts and use the ATMs.
