The Impact of Templated Guidance on Project Completion Rates and Writing Consistency Among Nigerian Polytechnic Students
Abstract
This study investigated the impact of structured templated guidance on project completion rates and academic writing consistency among Nigerian polytechnic students. A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent pre-test/post-test control group design was employed involving 200 final-year HND students from three Nigerian polytechnics. The experimental group (n = 100) received a structured academic writing template and training, while the control group (n = 100) followed traditional project-writing methods. Pre- and post-intervention data were collected using a structured questionnaire, academic writing samples scored via rubric, and semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that students who received templated guidance had significantly higher project completion rates and writing quality scores. Thematic analysis also showed improved writing clarity, confidence, and supervisor alignment. These findings suggest that templated academic support can enhance student outcomes and reduce barriers to effective project completion in technical tertiary education contexts.
