Abstract

This study examined the effect of work–life balance initiatives on employee job satisfaction in First Bank PLC, Awka. The main objective was to determine how leave policies, wellness programs, and other work–life balance strategies influence employees’ satisfaction levels. A quantitative research design was employed, using structured questionnaires to collect data from employees. Out of the distributed questionnaires, a total of 101 valid responses were retrieved and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools. The findings revealed that leave policies have a significant positive effect on employee job satisfaction, indicating that adequate rest and time-off provisions contribute to improved well-being and productivity. Similarly, wellness programs were found to positively influence job satisfaction, highlighting the importance of organizational support for employees’ physical and mental health. Furthermore, the study established that work–life balance initiatives as a whole significantly enhance employee job satisfaction, underscoring the role of flexible and supportive policies in boosting morale and organizational commitment. Based on these findings, the study recommends that First Bank PLC should strengthen its leave policies, expand wellness programs, and institutionalize comprehensive work–life balance initiatives. Doing so will not only enhance employee satisfaction but also contribute to higher performance and long-term organizational success.
