Managing Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions: HRM Challenges Faced by UK Multinationals

Ruth Ojakorotu

Abstract

Cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) have become increasingly prevalent as UK multinationals seek global expansion opportunities. However, the human resource management (HRM) challenges associated with these transactions significantly impact success rates. This paper examined the primary HRM challenges faced by UK multinationals during cross-border M&As, including cultural integration, talent retention, communication barriers, and regulatory compliance. Through analysis of existing literature and case studies, this research identified key factors contributing to M&A failure and proposes strategic HRM frameworks to improve success rates. The findings suggest that proactive cultural due diligence, structured integration planning, and adaptive leadership development are crucial for successful cross- border M&A implementation.
