Quality Management Research and Development and Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Port Harcourt Nigeria

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationships between quality management research and development and profitability of small and medium enterprises in Port Harcourt Nigeria. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play significant role in the emerging economic growth of nations. In spite of their heroine’s position in economic development, SMEs are puzzled with multiplicity of challenges associated with poor-quality management, research and development which cumulated to paucity in profitability outlay. However, the study employed research design and data were collected and analyzed. The results demonstrate a significant relationship between quality management research and development and profitability of SMEs in Port Harcourt Nigeria. Similarly, SMEs have contributed tremendously to the nations GDP, according to small and medium enterprises development agency of Nigeria and they are identified as the engine to economic growth and development. Hence the researcher recommend that owners managers should key on to the enormous benefits associated with implementation of quality management research and development practices as it was discovered that full utilization of quality management practices improve firm profitability outlay. In Conclusion, the empirical and the analytical result obtained revealed a statistically significant relationship between quality management research and development and profitability of SMEs in Port Harcourt Nigeria.
