Belongingness and Organizational Survival of Higher Institutions of Learning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the relationship between belongingness and organizational survival of higher institutions in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study adopted a cross sectional research design and a population of three hundred (300) respondents drawing from the six (6) higher institutions in Port Harcourt was selected for the study. The simple random sampling technique was adopted due to time frame. Data was collected through a well-structured and self-administered questionnaire to all three hundred (300) respondents. Out of the three hundred (300) questionnaires distributed only one hundred and eighty (180) were filled and returned. Filled and returned questionnaire, the responses were sorted out, cleaned and scrutinized properly to ensure it meet our expectation and standard for the research process. Out of the one hundred and eighty (180), only eighty-two (82) met our standard and were used for analysis. Tables, percentages, Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficients and Statistical Package for Social Science version 25 were used for data presentation, analysis and testing of hypotheses to determine the relationship between belongingness and organizational survival of higher institutions in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Nigeria. The findings revealed that When employees both old and new are effectively integrated into the mission, vision and are part of decision making process of the organization, they give their best to their organization and innovation thrive. The study concluded the survival of higher institutions in Port Harcourt and their aspiration to offer superior services in teaching and learning that matches the west depend largely on their ability to promote effective and efficient policies that promotes integration, synergy and network building among employees and give the latitude to own up their duties within the framework of the institutions strategic goals.
