Workplace Environment and Employees’ Performance of Radio Stations in Abia State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study focused on the effect of workplace environment on employees’ performance in radio stations in Abia State. Two specific objectives guided the study, to: ascertain the effect of physical work environment on employees’ content quality and creativity, and evaluate the effect of psychological work environment on employees’ technical skills and equipment management. The study adopted survey research design. The study population consisted of 238 employees of the 5 selected radio stations. Primary data were used. Face and content validity techniques were used to validate the research instrument. Test-re-test method and Cronbach Alpha reliability technique were used to check the reliability of the research instrument. Ordinary Least Square Regression analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from filed. Findings revealed that at 5% level (Sig < .05) of significance, the physical work environment had a positive and significant effect on the employees’ content quality and creativity. The psychological work environment had a positive and significant effect on the employees’ technical skills and equipment management. The researcher concluded that workplace environment had a positive and significant effect on employees’ performance in radio stations in Abia State. However, the study recommended that: Management needs to continuously improve their physical work environment by optimizing the physical layout of workspaces, ensuring that employees have access to comfortable and functional areas for brainstorming, content creation, and production. They also need to provide ergonomic furniture, adequate lighting, and quiet spaces that encourage creativity.
