Abstract

The purpose of this study was designed to determine the relationship between ICT competence and lecturers’ teaching performance in Rivers state university Port Harcourt. Two research questions were raised to achieve the study aim while two hypotheses were postulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The sample of the study was 62 respondents derived from the population of the study which was 220 respondents made up of Business Education lecturers in the Rivers state university teaching Business Education programme as a course of study. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher entitled: Information and Communication Technology Competencies Questionnaire” (ICTCQ), “Business Education Lecturers Teaching Performance Questionnaire” (BELTPQ). The reliability coefficients obtained were 0.89 and 0.82 for ICTCQ and BELTPQ respectively. Data collected were analysed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) analysis. The null hypotheses formulated were tested at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that both ICT components studied had significant positive relationships with teaching performance, though at varying degrees. It was concluded that the integration of ICT in pedagogical practice is no longer optional but a necessity for professional relevance and academic excellence.
