Ugochi Linda Onyeanuforo; Christopher Alfa

Abstract

This research is focused on the revolutionary function of big data analytics in global intellectual property (IP) management in sustainable business practices. With the growth in globalisation and digitalisation, organisations are facing unprecedented challenges in holding IP portfolios across jurisdictions while keeping sustainability goals. Through examination of existing literature, case studies, and empirical evidence, this study presents evidence regarding the potential of big data analytics to maximize IP strategies, minimize environmental footprint, and maximize competitive edge in global markets. The research activity included review of existing literature, case studies of leading Fortune 500 firms, and empirical examination of data-driven IP management tools in different industries. The research found that businesses applying big data analytics in managing IP see tremendous gains in operational effectiveness, cost savings, and sustainability processes. Precisely, the research found that effectiveness of decision-making in IP management systems with data-based capabilities can be improved by up to 40%, lower legal expenses by 25%, and contribute substantially to sustainable business processes in reduced use of paper, better resource utilization, and improved collaboration tools. Three technology adoption groups by organizations are identified in the research: Early Adopters (28%) who adopt comprehensive big data platforms with better performance results, Mainstream Adopters (45%) with minimum analytics solutions with equal improvements, and Laggards (27%) who depend on traditional approaches with competitive pressures. This study provides actionable advice to organizations aiming to use big data towards effective IP management in a sustainable manner and outlines major challenges and opportunities of this new area. The study adds to the current understanding of how IP management technological innovation will help pro
