Abstract

Foreign aids or assistance has been of immense support for socio-economic development in many third world countries (Asia, Africa and Latin America). This aids and supports are not without undertone or hidden agenda or motive can be said to have brought about minimal growth and development in third world countries through the provision of facilities such as health care, education, water and social welfare services. This research work attempt to assess the role and contributions of foreign aids in the development of third world countries against the background of the role, contributions and exit of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its possible implication on Nigeria socio-economic development, the source of data for this research work is secondary data such as documentary, textbook, journals, periodicals and internet materials, findings of this research shows that a lot of funds in term of Aids and support comes into Nigeria from United States of America (USA) through one of its development assistants’ agencies (USAID) but this are peanuts compared to the exploited and catered away resources from Nigeria for the development of their country (Europe and America). It is the belief of this research work that the exit of USAID and the cutting or stoppage of other foreign aids and assistance will in the short run bring hardship and slow down our socio-economic development but it is a wakeup call on government and people of third world countries especially Nigeria to look inward and explore alternative ways and means of funding and meeting their constitutional responsibilities instead of relying on foreign aids and assistance and to for once and for all get of their neck the hook of the so call Aids and assistance of the capitalist countries through their arm twisting strategy of exploitation.
