Abstract

The woman-predicament is arguably an existential critical concern in society. This predicament is mostly experienced in marriage situations. In the African marriage, children, especially sons, are the major expected fruits. The focus is on the woman, the wife, to produce the fruits, to give birth to them. So, barrenness and/or sonlessness become/s a dreaded predicament of the woman victim, whether the problem is from her or the husband. This predicament appears to have transited from drama to film, as is witnessed in Nigerian drama and the home videos. In fact, Nigerian home videos are displaying this tendency the more these days. This study aims to do an inter-textual analysis of Ada Onyebuenyi’s the Quest and a movie, Through the Fire. In this inter- textual journey, the issue of woman predicament in marriage, in society, is depicted as a disturbing subject matter with the appurtenances of feminist themes.
