Mentor's Instructional Competencies and Business Education students Business Opportunities Scouting among Mentees in Rivers State Universities
Abstract
The study examined the relationship between mentor's instructional competencies and Business Opportunities Scouting among Mentees in Rivers State Universities. The study adopted correlational design aimed at determining the relationship between various types of mentor's instructional competencies and Business Opportunities Scouting among Mentees. Three research questions were posed and three corresponding null hypotheses were formulated to guide the conduct of the study. The population of the study comprised of fifty-eight (58) Business Education lecturers in Rivers State Universities which also formed the sample. Two sets of self-constructed questionnaire titled Questionnaire on mentor's instructional competencies” (QMIC) and Questionnaire on business opportunities scouting among mentees” (QBOSAM)) was used to collect responses from respondents were used in eliciting responses from respondents for this study. The research instruments were validated by two Business Educators and one Measurement and Evaluation experts. All the inputs and corrections from the experts were used to modify the research instruments before administration. Reliability level for the instruments was established using a test-re-test method. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyse the two sets of data and the reliability levels were established at a coefficient (r) of 0.71 for on mentor's instructional competencies Questionnaire and 0.85 for business opportunities scouting among mentees Questionnaire. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for answering the research questions while Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Method was used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05% level of significance.
