Abstract

The study examined the effect of federal government capital expenditures on economic health of Nigeria. The independent variables of this study are administration, social and community service and transfer expenditure, while dependent variable is real gross domestic product. The study adopted Ex-post facto and experimental research design. The study covered the period of 1981- 2023 based on the convenient and systematic sampling techniques. This period is adopted because of the duration is considered appropriate because it help to have robust finding. The study makes used of secondary source of data (time series data), the data was collected from CBN statistical bulletin for the period 1981-2023. The area of the study is in Nigeria, as the study focuses on economic health of Nigeria up to 2023. Ordinary Least Square Regression Model was developed to test the effect between dependent and independent variables. It was operated using EVIEWS 10. The results of the Ordinary Least Square Model revealed that, administration expenditure has negative and significant effect on the real gross domestic product (RGDP) of (P<.5), social and community services expenditure has a positive but insignificant effect on the real gross domestic product (RGDP) of (P>.5). While transfer expenditure shows positive and significant effects on real gross domestic product (RGDP) of (P<.5). In conclusion, both administration, social and community service and transfer expenditure in Nigeria play pivotal roles in boosting the country's economic growth. The study recommended that, The federal government is encourage to conduct thorough audit of administrative expenses to identify inefficiencies and areas where costs can be reduced without impacting essential services. It should increase funding in social and community services with the aim of achieving a more substantial and measurable impact on GDP. The federal government should also increase funding in soci
