Effect of Technology Infrastructure on the Performance of Medium- Scale Enterprises in Calabar, Cross River State

Essien Kufre Okon

Abstract

The improvement in enterprises revenue is undermined by ineffective technology investments which affect the firm’s competitiveness in the market. The study examined the effect of internet connectivity, data storage infrastructure, and telecommunication infrastructure on the financial performance of medium-scale enterprises. The technology acceptance model was adopted to explain the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of technology. A sample size of 325 workers, stratified random sampling, and a structured questionnaire were used to facilitate data collection. Descriptive statistics and multicollinearity with the variance inflation factor were used to ascertain the accuracy of the data set. The hypotheses were tested with the use of ordinal regression analysis. Findings revealed that internet connectivity, data storage infrastructure, and telecommunication infrastructure significantly affect the financial performance of medium-scale enterprises. The study concluded that technology infrastructure enables enterprises to automate and streamline routine business activities and improves the efficient utilization of organizational resources. The study recommended that organizational leaders in medium-scale enterprises should prioritize internet connectivity to enable enterprises to communicate through email, video conferencing, cloud-based platforms, and other administrative activities. Organizational leaders in medium-scale enterprises should sustain effective data storage to enable enterprises to maintain accurate records of sales to retrieve relevant information when needed to make informed decisions. Organizational leaders in medium-scale enterprises should commit to telecommunication facilities to enable enterprises to communicate with existing and potential customers, provide information about services, and increase customer reach and sales revenue.
