ICT Infrastructure Availability and National Development in Nigeria: Implications for Security Information Management

Anie Atim Bassey, Emmanuel Ekpenyong Okon, PhD

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of insecurity in Nigeria has heightened the need for effective information management supported by robust Information and Communication Technology infrastructure. This study examined the implications of ICT infrastructure availability for information management and insecurity in promoting national development in Nigeria. Specifically, the study focused on digital connectivity infrastructure, information systems infrastructure, and cybersecurity infrastructure as key dimensions of ICT infrastructure availability. The study adopted a qualitative approach using a desk research design. Data were obtained from peer-reviewed journal articles, books, government publications, policy documents, and reports from reputable national and international organizations. The collected information was analysed using qualitative content analysis through a systematic review and synthesis of relevant literature. The findings revealed that digital connectivity infrastructure enhances information sharing and institutional collaboration, information systems infrastructure improves data integration and evidence-based decision-making, while cybersecurity infrastructure safeguards critical information assets and strengthens national resilience against cyber threats. The study recommended that sustained investment in digital connectivity, integrated information systems, and cybersecurity infrastructure to strengthen information management capabilities, enhance national security, and accelerate Nigeria's socio-economic development.
