Healthcare Management Through Digital Transformation Service Delivery in Nigeria: A Study of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital , Calabar (2022 - 2025)
Abstract
Sequel to the emerging challenges in the sector, this research examined the healthcare management through digital transformation service delivery in Nigeria using the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Nigeria as a case study. Digital transformation in healthcare, within Teaching Hospitals entails the integration of technology, data driven processes, and innovative solutions into the traditional mechanisms of governance, administration, and service provision in the healthcare sector of Nigeria. In order to effectively understand the use of digital technology in healthcare delivery, the study objectives, investigates on the availability of digital facilities in University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, examined the level of the management commitment to providing digital infrastructure like more number of ICT systems for use, internet connectivity and other softwares that enhance digitalization in the hospital, as well as the utilization of digital facilities in healthcare delivery with the associated challenges of the use of digital services in the healthcare sector. The study adopted structural functionalism theory to establish the relationship between digital utilization and quality of healthcare delivery in University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources using questionnaire and interview as data collection instruments. The study used the stratified sampling method while data generated were analyzed using the Chi-square statistics. Although 250 respondents were sampled, the data analyzed were based on 215 questionnaires retrieved from the field and presented according to the study objectives. From the findings, it was established that effective utilization of digital transformation would stop overcrowding in the hospital, limit medical errors and undue waiting time of patients in the hospital. The study also identified inadequate digital infrastructure, no internet connectivity and erratic electricity power supply as major challenges. At the end the study recommended that there is need for management of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital to embrace healthcare digital facilities and establish comprehensive training for health professionals for effective and efficient service delivery. jpaswr
