Biostatistical Method and Experimental Design for Evaluating Morphometry in Teleost: Family Claridae Mossanbicus Species in Bayelsa Zone of Niger Delta, Nigeria
Abstract
The paper intends to emphasize the importance of choosing the right method, methodology and experimental design for evaluating morphometry in fisheries research studies. The methodology adopted followed that of normal distribution model and it’s continues variables. Application of this method made it possible to describe 58 species of the clariid family in Bayelsa ecological zone of the Niger Delta. It was possible to obtain Bio statistical data for members of this family for the first time. Bio statistical and Bio Mathematical model’s application in fisheries studies has produced more accurate data and result interpretation which can stand scientific tests of approval. Thirty samples of each species were selected from each station. The standard length (S.L) of each fish specimen were measured. Fish specimen were called from fishermen catches. The discrete variables were converted to variables according to the assumption of the normal distribution model. Results were presented in tables, charts and graphs. Analysis of Variance for mean standard length were done to validate the species. Genetic composition, phenotypic frequencies and variance were provided. Six species from six populations were described and classified as Clarias mossanbicus (Uniformly black), Clarias mossanbicus (Uniformly brown), Clarias mossanbicus (olive green), Clarias mossanbicus (Marble patches on black), Clarias mossanbicus (Marble patches on brown), and Clarias mossanbicus (Marble patches on Olive green).
