Hematological and Immunological Impact of Arundo Donax Leave Extract in Laboratory Mice

Abstract

Medicinal plants are widely explored for potential therapeutic properties, particularly in modulating hematological and Immunological functions. Arundo donax, commonly known as Giant reed, is an invasive perennial grass with reported phytochemical constituents, including flavonoids, alkaloids and phenolic compounds that may possess biological activities. However, limited scientific evidence exists regarding its systemic effects, particularly on hematological parameters. This study aims to investigate the hematological impact of Arundo donax leaves extract in laboratory m ice. Ethanolic extracts of Arundo donax leave were administered to different groups of mice over a controlled period and key hematological parameters such as red blood cell count, white blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit and platelet count were analyzed. Findings suggest a significant dose-dependent variation in hematological indices, indicating potential immunomodulatory and hematopoietic effects. These results provide a foundational understanding of the biological activity of Arundo donax, laying the groundwork for its future pharmacological exploration and safe therapeutic application.
