Validation of Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Methods for Critical Failure Mode Prioritization in Subsea Distribution Units

Abstract

Reliability-based decision-making for subsea production systems is challenged by data scarcity, expert subjectivity and complex failure interactions. This paper validates fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making techniques for prioritizing critical failure modes in Subsea Distribution Units . Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis was used for initial screening, after which Fuzzy TOPSIS and PROMETHEE II were independently applied. Using expert data validated with OREDA (2015), ranking convergence and robustness were evaluated. Results show strong agreement between the methods, particularly for electrical and signal distribution components, confirming their suitability as decision-support tools for subsea reliability management.
