Media Messages and Awareness of Prostate and Diabetic Morbidities in Ebonyi State

Abstract

This study investigated media messages and awareness of prostate and diabetic morbidities in Ebonyi State. The objectives were to: ascertain the level of awareness of residents of Ebonyi State about prostate and diabetic morbidities; identify the channels through which Ebonyi residents obtain media messages on prostate and diabetic diseases; examine Ebonyi State residents’ knowledge of media messages on prostate and diabetic morbidities; investigate the influence of media messages on perception of prostate and diabetic morbidities in Ebonyi State in relation to attitude and behaviour; ascertain the role of demographic factors such as age, gender, and education and media messages on prostate and diabetic morbidities in Ebonyi State in relation to attitude and behaviour. The framing and perception theories was adopted for this study. The Survey research method was adopted for this investigation while the population of the study was 3,719,999. A sample size of 384 was used for the work. The multi- stage sampling technique was used for the investigation while the questionnaire research instrument was used for the study. Based on the objectives of this study, it was established, among other findings, that there is a moderately significant level of awareness of prostate and diabetic morbidities by Ebonyi State residents. Based on the findings, the following recommendations among others were suggested: media practitioners should provide consistent amount of coverage on prostate and diabetes to increase highly the level of awareness of these diseases.
