Prince Ugochukwu Ofoezie, Mrs. Nkiru Bridget Nwachukwu, Ubani Obinna

Abstract

In many developing urban centres, including Nigerian cities, there is insufficient empirical evidence explaining the extent to which demographic features influence residential mobility choices. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between residents’ demographic characteristics and residential mobility in Enugu. Survey research design was employed in this study. The data were derived from a questionnaire survey of 400 household heads in the areas that have had residential mobility. The questionnaire method was used to elicit both qualitative and quantitative data. Multiple linear regression was also used to analyse the findings. The results indicated that the residential mobility in Enugu urban is significantly influenced by residents’ demographic characteristics. (F = 165.7, p. sig = 0.002, p-sig < 0.05). The understanding is essential for addressing urban housing challenges, improving infrastructure distribution, and promoting sustainable urban growth.
