Smart Teaching Technologies and Skill Deficiency of Marketing Educators: Implication for Higher Institutions in Nigeria

Abstract

This study examines smart teaching technologies and skill deficiencies among marketing educators, with emphasis on their implications for curriculum implementation in higher institutions in Nigeria. The rapid evolution of digital technologies has transformed global education, making smart teaching tools such as learning management systems, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and learning analytics essential for effective instructional delivery. Despite these advancements, many marketing educators in Nigeria continue to experience significant skill gaps in utilizing smart technologies in teaching. These deficiencies limit their ability to effectively integrate smart technologies into teaching and reduce the relevance of curriculum implementation in contemporary higher education. This study highlights the concept of smart technologies, concept of skill deficiency, types of smart teaching technologies, role of smart technologies in enhancing marketing education, skill deficiencies of marketing educators in Nigeria, implication for curriculum implementation in higher institutions in Nigeria and upskilling professional development and capacity building. It concludes that improving the capacity of marketing educators through targeted professional development and effective integration of smart teaching technologies will significantly enhance curriculum implementation, teaching quality, and graduate employability in Nigerian higher institutions it was recommended that The study recommends continuous ICT training for educators, investment in smart teaching technologies, strong industry collaboration, supportive institutional policies, peer mentoring, regular curriculum review, and improved infrastructure to enhance effective curriculum implementation in Nigerian higher institutions.
