Impact of Digital Library Services on Students’ Academic Performance
Abstract
This study examines the impact of digital library services on students’ academic performance in Federal Polytechnic Bali. The increasing adoption of Information and Communication Technology in academic libraries has transformed traditional library services into digital platforms that provide access to electronic books, online journals, databases, and other electronic learning resources. The study specifically investigates the availability and utilization of digital library services, their impact on students’ academic performance, and the challenges affecting their effective use. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to students selected from different departments within the institution. The findings revealed that digital library services are available in the institution, although their level of utilization among students is moderate. It was also discovered that digital library services have a positive impact on students’ academic performance by improving understanding of course materials, enhancing research skills, and supporting academic activities such as assignments and project writing. However, the study identified several challenges hindering effective utilization of digital library services, including poor internet connectivity, inadequate ICT skills, and unstable electricity supply. These challenges limit students’ ability to fully benefit from available digital resources. The study concludes that while digital library services significantly enhance students’ academic performance, their effectiveness is constrained by infrastructural and technical challenges. It recommends improved ICT infrastructure, regular digital literacy training, and increased awareness of digital library resources to enhance students’ academic outcomes.
