Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Personalized Student’s Counseling in Secondary Schools in Nigeria
Abstract
The study investigated the leveraging artificial Intelligence for personalized studentTo find a solution in the improvement of counseling for students different Ai apps was introduced in a discourse under investigation. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Related and relevant literatures were reviewed under conceptual framework, theoretical framework and review of related empirical studies. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey design was used for the study. The area of study is Enugu State. The population for the study comprised of 112,481 secondary school students in the 297 public secondary schools in Enugu State. From this population, three schools were randomly sampled using simple balloting. The total sample of 368 students which made up of 192 males and 176 females. The instrument for data collection is a self-constructed questionnaire titled: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Personalized Student’s Counseling” (LAIPSCQ). Section A, contains bio-data information of the respondents while section B, contains 30 objectives test items, with a multiple-choice question of 4 options A to D. The instruments for data collection were subjected to validation by three experts, two experts were from the Department of Guidance and Counselling while the other expert was from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Education (Measurement and Evaluation), all from Faculty of Education, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. The reliability coefficient 0f .85 was deduced as a measure of consistency through the use of Cronbach’s Alpha (α) statistics. Copies of questionnaire were administered and retrieved with the help of three research assistants that were properly briefed on the content of the questionnaire and its administration to ensure that the questionnaire is properly administered. The data generated from the study was analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. t-test statistics was used on the two null hypotheses that guided the study. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that artificial intelligence plays a significant role in improving the quality and effectiveness of student counseling services in secondary schools. AI tools such as chatbots, predictive analytics, and data- driven recommendation systems enhance counselors’ capacity to provide timely, individualized, and confidential support to students.
