Effect of Sole Application of Organic/Inorganic Manure and Its Combination on Growth of Waterleaf ( Talinium Triangulare Jacq) In Rivers State University
Abstract
The effect of sole application of organic and inorganic manure and its combination on growth of waterleaf (Talinium triangulare jacq) was studied at the Teaching and Research farm, of Rivers State University. Six treatments used for the cultivation of the waterleaf, replicated three times and laid using a Randomized Complete Block Design wereT1 untreated plot, T2 poultry manure at 10t/h, T3 cowdung at 10t/ h, T4 N.P.K 15:15:15 at 300kg/h,T5 poultry manure 5t/h+N.P.K. 15:15:15 150Kg/h, T6 Cowdung 5t/h+N.P.K.15:15:15 150Kg/h which were mixed thoroughly with the tilled soil on the designated plots. Data were collected at 4,6 and 8 WAP on plant height, number of leaves, number of stems, and leaf area, and collected data was subject analysis of variance and means separated using Least significant difference at 5% level of probability. Result obtained showed that sole application of poultry manure T2 produced highest plant height (15.28cm) and leaf area (12.48cm2, while poultry manure + N.P.K.15:15:15 produce the highest number of leaves (67.07). There were no significant difference in the number of stems produced by the various treatments. Therefore, these treatments are recommended for cultivation of water leaf and choice of which to use depends on the growth parameters the farmer which to achieve, poultry manure and it's combination with N.P:K 15:15:15 is recommended.
