Survival Times of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Patients Based on Treatment Type: A Comparative Nonparametric Survival Analysis
Abstract
Triple-negative breast cancer is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer associated with poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Survival outcomes among TNBC patients are known to vary depending on the type of treatment received, making comparative survival evaluation essential for clinical decision-making. This study aimed to assess and compare the survival times of TNBC patients based on different treatment types, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, and combination therapy. Survival data from 100 TNBC patients were analyzed using nonparametric survival techniques. Differences in survival distributions across treatment groups were evaluated using the Log-Rank (Mantel–Cox), Breslow (Generalized Wilcoxon), and Tarone– Ware tests. Among patients who received chemotherapy (30 patients), 22 deaths and 8 censored cases were recorded, yielding the lowest survival rate of 26.7%. Radiotherapy patients (23 patients) experienced 12 deaths and 11 censored cases, with a survival rate of 47.8%. Surgery produced the most favorable outcome, with 9 deaths and 13 censored cases among 22 patients, resulting in a survival rate of 59.1%. Combination therapy showed 15 deaths and 10 censored cases among 25 patients, corresponding to a survival rate of 40.0%. Overall, 58 deaths and 42 censored cases were observed across all treatments. All three statistical tests indicated significant differences in survival outcomes by treatment type (p < 0.05). The study demonstrates that survival outcomes among TNBC patients differ significantly according to treatment type. Surgical intervention was associated with the highest survival rate in this cohort, highlighting the importance of treatment selection, early detection, and appropriate therapeutic strategies in improving TNBC survival outcomes.
