Transformational Leadership and Gender-Based Violence: An Ethical Reflection From 2 Samuel 13

Becky Misom Kibie, Oladele Olubukola Olabode, PhD

Abstract

Gender-Based Violence , which is a global and societal challenge in Africa, is often caused by physical inequalities, cultural norms, and leadership failures. This paper explores the role of transformational leadership as an ethical response to GBV through a theological and ethical reflection on 2 Samuel 13. It highlights the narrative of Amnon and Tamar. The study examines the concept of transformational leadership, the nature and forms of GBV, an exegesis of 2 Samuel 13, leadership failure in King David’s family and structure, transformational leadership as an ethical response, and the implications of GBV. The paper argues that transformational leadership provides a framework for moral advocacy and justice to victims of GBV. The study concludes by practically recommending that churches and Theological institutions, especially within Africa, should be ethically accountable, foster advocacy, and intervene.
