Control of Still Birth Among Gravida Two Pregnancy Women

Innime Righteous

Abstract

The study examined the control of stillbirth among gravida two pregnant women in Azu Health Centre. Stillbirth remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in resource- limited settings, with profound physical, emotional, and socio-economic consequences for affected women and their families. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of stillbirth among gravida two pregnant women, identify associated risk factors, evaluate the effectiveness of existing interventions, and assess the level of knowledge and awareness regarding stillbirth prevention. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population consisted of pregnant women attending antenatal clinic at Azu Health Centre, with a sample size of one hundred (100) respondents selected using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by experts and tested for reliability before administration. Data collected were analyzed using frequency tables and simple percentages, while the Chi-square (χ2) statistical test was used to test the research hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that stillbirth among gravida two pregnant women is influenced by factors such as inadequate antenatal care attendance, poor management of maternal health conditions, delayed hospital presentation, and limited awareness of pregnancy danger signs. The study also found gaps in the implementation of preventive interventions and maternal education programs. Furthermore, the emotional and psychological impact of stillbirth on affected women was found to be significant. The study concluded that controlling stillbirth among gravida two pregnant women requires improved antenatal care services, early identification and management of risk factors, enhanced maternal health education, capacity building for healthcare providers, and integration of psychological support services. It was recommended that Azu Health Centre strengthen routine screening, community awareness programs, and monitoring systems to reduce the incidence of stillbirth and improve maternal health outcomes.
